Criminal law in Scotland is administered by a Public Prosecutor. The prime holder of this office is the Lord Advocate, who with the Solicitor General and Advocates Depute (collectively known as Crown council), prosecutes on behalf of the Crown for the High Court of the Judiciary. These officials preside at Edinburgh but sit on a regular Circuit of the major Scottish towns. In each Sheriffdom the Lord Advocate appoints a Procurator Fiscal.
