Alwyn Hazel Jones was born in 'Epworth', the Methodist Hospital in Melbourne, to Welsh and Cornish Australian parents, and spent her early years in Black Rock, Victoria. During World War II she began her education at College Rural, in the grounds of the University of Melbourne. Interested in music from an early age, when at Methodist Ladies' College, she enjoyed taking part in the school choir, playing her flute in the orchestra, and taking part in a Music Camp at Geelong Grammar School. After graduating as a music teacher from the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, she taught at Balwyn High school. In 1959 she married and spent a year in Britain. Later, with her husband and two children, she lived in the Northern Territory for six years in Darwin and for one year in Alice Springs. Over the years she has been organist at a number of churches in Victoria, Australia, but is now retired and her main interest is listening to music.
