Life, death, and the place that lies between them. Is there a fate worse than death? Michael Jack Lajoie never expected to be a prisoner inside his own body. But, after being declared clinically dead following a routine surgical procedure, he finds himself trapped between the living world and the hereafter. With the ability to blend in among the living, he wanders through his previous life, searching for clues and finding no answers until he is contacted.
Michael "Jack" Lajoie struggles with being declared clinically dead after a routine medical procedure but can still walk amongst the living. He awakens to this new world and seeks clues as to who is responsible for his condition. His wife, Ellen, is all alone and struggles to come to grips with his sudden loss and starts to experience several strange phenomena in her home and private life.
While inside Calverton National Cemetery, attending his own funeral, Jack sees the odd behavior of four people in the vast field of headstones; he now believes that his wife may be in danger. While temporarily sheltered in the tool shed behind his home, he is approached by Alex, another victim of what is turning out to be a group explicitly harvested from the population. This group of the deceased is composed of all medically terminal military personnel.
One evening as Jack's wife Ellen sleeps inside their home, an intruder enters and draws Jack inside. The intruder, Paul Jennings, is seeking to find the rest of his experimental group that has gone missing and the person responsible for their condition, Dr. Phillipe Sixto. However, there is a link between the group of the deceased and a coalition comprised of elected government officials, entrepreneur billionaires, and doctors. The coalition harvested the group for an unknown mission and is now seeking them out by any means necessary.
