Mel Robbins is an American author, motivational speaker, podcast host, and former lawyer known for her transformative work on personal empowerment. Born as Melanie Lee Schneeberger on October 6, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was raised in North Muskegon, Michigan. Robbins attended Dartmouth College before earning her law degree from Boston College Law School in 1994.
Her early career began in criminal defense, eventually leading to her role as a legal analyst for CNN, where she notably covered high-profile cases like the George Zimmerman trial. Robbins also ventured into television, hosting The Mel Robbins Show, A&E's Monster In-Laws, and Fox's Someone's Gotta Go.
In 2011, Robbins published her first book, Stop Saying You're Fine, marking her entry into motivational writing. A pivotal moment in her career came with her TEDx talk, "How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over," where she introduced her now-famous "5 Second Rule" technique. This method, featured in her best-selling book The 5 Second Rule, resonated widely, becoming one of the most-watched TEDx talks with over 31 million views.
