William McKee was born in the years leading up to the conflict in Northern Ireland, a protestant raised in a mixed community. William joined the Prison Service in 1977 rising by promotion to the the rank of Governor. He served four periods of duty in the infamous Maze Prison dealing with the main leaders of the paramilitary organizations involved in the conflict. He was in charge of the Prison on the day of the murder of a paramilitary leader, a murder which shocked the world due the suspicion of collusion by the state. William is now retired and continues to work tirelessly for peace, sharing platforms with members of the very same organizations that once attempted to murder him.
