As any student of Welsh history is keenly aware, the societal upheaval of the 1960s is inextricably intertwined with to the activities of the Movement for the Defence of Wales (Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru, or MAC) and its two main protagonists, Owen Williams and John Jenkins. This book tells the story of the MAC's remarkable campaign from its inception in 1963 to the establishment of the Welsh assembly in 1969, charting the clandestine extremist organization's course through the struggle for Welsh independence and considering the sometimes difficult distinctions between patriotism and terrorism.
John Humphries is the former editor of the Western Mail, Wales's national daily newspaper.
