For a long time in Japan, craftsmen have made pottery. Their handmade plates and tea kettles, cups and bowls, were both beautiful and useful. The potter's loving care went into creating each piece.
Sometimes, of course, pottery gets broken. Rather than throwing out the broken dishes, some devoted artists decided to glue the pieces back together using golden lacquer. When a craftsman glued the pieces together in this way, the result was even more beautiful and unique than the original, unbroken form. This style of art is called kintsugi.
In Beloved, K. Mercer takes the concept of kintsugi and shows children (and adults!) how they can be mended like broken pottery, despite all the hardships they've been through. This beautiful poem, complemented by artwork provided by DeveoStudio.com, is a must-have for anyone who has experienced difficult times - and who among us hasn't?
