Current public information reveals the lack of proficient readers in an alarming number of school districts, perhaps the idea of visiting time-honored teaching strategies is in order. "Maslow before Bloom" is a strong focus throughout the book: the idea of recognizing the importance of meeting students' personal needs before turning to their cognitive skill development is something worth acknowledging.

School choice is becoming a major issue but in this author's experience, improving ALL schools is the best answer. Teachers are using all the tools to which they have access and must therefore be offered a new set of tools.
